  15. SYMPTOMS
  16. ========

  18. If a user is logging on to a domain from a new workstation for the
  19. first time, the following error message may be generated:
  20.  
  21.    An error has occurred in the registry. The Program Manager's settings
  22.    and groups cannot be accessed.
  23.  
  24. At that point, the user will not see any of the program groups.
  25.  
  26. CAUSE
  27. =====
  28.  
  29. While the domain controller possesses account information about the
  30. user and the user does not belong to any global groups that were
  31. migrated to the local computer when joining the domain, the actual
  32. local computer does not see any information about the user's profile
  33. because the user is not registered in a local group or as a local
  34. user. This will most often happen when logging on to a trusted domain.
  35.  
  36. RESOLUTION
  37. ==========

  39. The Administrator must sign on locally and through User Manager, add
  40. the user name to a local group (such as Users). This can be done by
  41. doing the following:
  42.  
  43. 1. Log on as Administrator and run the User Manager located in the
  44.    Administrative Tools group.
  45.  
  46. 2. Highlight and double-click a local group suitable for the user,
  47.    such as Users or Administrators.
  48.  
  49. 3. Choose Add and select the domain the user resides in. Select the
  50.    user, choose Add, and then choose OK.
  51.  
  52. 4. Log on as the user to verify that the program groups are there.
